About Us

Youth Media Mind of America was founded in 2005. as a 501(c)(3) non-profit educational organization dedicated to bringing audio, video, and multimedia communications technology within the reach of at-risk and underserved youth between ages 14-18, including youth who are visually impaired or deaf and hard of hearing.

History

Youth Media Minds of America was founded in the home of Roy Gipson in 2005. Classes began with Roy teaching eight students the basics of audio, video, and multimedia technology. With over 15 years of experience in the audio. video multimedia industry, Roy’s passion for teaching youth emerged while serving as media director for Victory Church in Stone Mountain, Georgia. In February 2006, Roy and his students were able to move into its new facility located in the historic Avondale Estates, Georgia. After much preparation.
the first official day of classes began June 2006.

YMMA Vision

The vision of Youth Media Minds of America is to bring youth and technology together to develop succesful and responsible media leaders of the future.

I can confidently say that my time at with YMMA or Youth Media Minds of America has fundamentally shaped me into the person I am today. Mr. Roy and Mrs. Renee have an incredible personal investment to moving the youth forward through the interest of Media broadcast. I truly feel that being apart of this amazing program has inspired me to pursue my artistic ambitions. Anyone who is interested in anything media or simple leadership skills would really benefit from this organization like I did so many years ago. I want to personally thank YMMA and everybody apart of it for making my experience as memorable and impactful as it was.

Being in YMMA has given me great exposure and hands on experience at the same time. I’ve interviewed many celebrities such as Russell Simmons, Magic Johnson, and Steve Harvey. I also had the pleasure of getting an internship opportunity with Atlanta Journal Chronical with writer/reporter Crystal Edmondson. YMMA is helping to prepare me for the career I plan to succeed in which is having my own television show. Thank you YMMA for helping me along with many other students who have a desire to learn all about media.
Ashley Bridges

Throughout the past 3 years that I’ve been a part of the YMMA family I’ve gained not only media knowledge in audio production, but I’ve also gained lasting friendships with people that I can lovingly call my family. YMMA is a positive outlet for youth wishing to pursue a career in the media industry. It is an organization that not only enrich and enlighten but it also gives youth a venue to harvest their talents. I recommend this organization to any of my friends who have hopes of breaking into the media industry.
